TABOO ENGLISH

There are many English words commonly used by Japanese that have a bad nuance for native speakers.
Most of them are because of translations that are out-of-date, too formal, or just plain wrong.
Some of them are because people start from overly formal Japanese.

ABSENT (keseki) should be CAN'T COME (korarenai)
Absent is a an administrative expression. Teachers use it when discussing the class attendance sheet.
Can't come is the normal conversational expression just as it is in Japanese.

Dane: Where's Mr. Tanaka?
Kenji: He can't come.

MEMBERS (kaiin) should be PEOPLE or FRIENDS (hito, tomodachi)
Member is another administrative expression like Absent.

Our club is looking for new members.

Dane: Did you go to China alone?
Kenji: No. There were five other people in our tour group.

英語を母国語としている人（ネイティブスピーカー）にとって、英語の単語が日本語では悪いニュアンスになっている例が数多く見られます。

大体においてなぜそうなっているのかというと、訳が時代遅れ、　フォーマルしすぎ、それとも単に間違いだからです。大げさでフォーマルな日本語からはじめた為でもあります。

ABSENT　(欠席)は　CAN'T COME（来られない）で十分です。

Absentは事務管理的な表現です。先生がクラスの出席簿について議論するときに使います。

Can't comeは日本語と同じようにノーマルな口語的表現です。

例：Dane: Where's Mr. Tanaka? 田中さんは？

Kenji: He can't come. 今日は来られません。

MEMBERS　（会員）はPEOPLE 又は FRIENDS　（人、友達）にすべきです。
